In 1994 Podere Pereto began its collaboration with the Association of ​G​uardians' Farmers, for the protection of ancient varieties of seeds of Tuscan origin, precious witnesses of ​an ancient knowledge t​hat has to be protected. Local and ancient varieties are grown. These are delicate varieties and victims of the phenomenon of genetic erosion (loss of plant biodiversity). Legumes such as the Piccino chickpea, the Toscanello bean and the Zolfino​ ​Cereals such as the Verna, Gentil Rosso, Frassineto soft wheats and the Cappelli durum wheat.
